Anant G. Nadkarni | Founders' Committee

Anant Nadkarni is currently Vice-President, Group Corporate Sustainability of the Tata Group and coordinates social, environmental and related initiatives with nearly fifty major Tata companies through a network of over a hundred champions representing these companies.

Mr. Nadkarni conceptualizes and organizes annual events christened ‘CS Workouts’ to help most of these champions to co-create concepts, frameworks, templates and guidelines. This has helped companies work more coherently and evolve strategic solutions to take their own initiatives to the next level. Due to the paucity of credible social indicators, he further conceptualized and partnered with the UNDP to develop the Tata Index for Sustainable Human Development along with major Tata companies. After ten years of experimentation, UNDP has taken another initiative to improve this Index for Impact Assessment.

Mr. Nadkarni has undertaken certified courses in environmental management, the Global Reporting Initiatives and sustainability reporting. He also represents the Tata Group on several bodies promoting social responsibility and corporate sustainability. Some of them are: Member, Advisory Council of the Bureau of Indian Standards’ Committee for ISO 26000; Alternate member – Social Accountability International’s Advisory Board; Member of the Advisory Group for Task Force on Supply Chain Management of UN Global Compact; Focal Point – UN Global Compact; formerly Member – Advisory Committee, World Economic Forum, Geneva; Member of the National Council for CR of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), New Delhi; Convener of the Panel that has brought out IS16001 – Social Accountability at Workplace under the Bureau of Indian Standard (his term has been renewed in this position); Member of the Advisory Board of the Indira Group of Institutes, Pune. He had the opportunity to create national level Codes and Guidance document on CSR for the CII and the CII-UNDP Social Code.

In all these years Mr. Nadkarni has had the opportunity to work in diverse fields and interact with an extremely interesting and wide array of people from all walks of life including business, politics, academics, journalism, authors, bureaucrats, leaders and followers, and assist authorities and citizens to innovate ways to address new challenges in community building. He was invited to speak or present this work in twenty-five countries to make several presentations touching nearly several thousand people. At present he conducts various forms of programmes in CS Leadership and Sustainability for the Tata group, other businesses and institutions.
