Rochelle Zaid

Senior Director | Standards and Impacts | New York, USA

As Senior Director of Standards and Impacts, Rochelle Zaid oversees the development and implementation of the SA8000® Standard, its certification system, and related tools and programs. She leads SAI’s collaboration with other standards organizations and brands, spearheading innovative initiatives to advance the human rights of workers around the world.

Zaid previously served as the Executive Director of SAI’s affiliate organization Social Accountability Accreditation Services (SAAS) for almost a decade. Under her leadership, SAAS grew into a leading organization evaluating, accrediting, and monitoring firms that audit and certify organizations to social standards. Prior to her tenure at SAAS, Zaid had worked in various roles with SAI – most recently as Director of Training and Accreditation.

Zaid has a background in promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. She worked as project administrator for social accountability at Eileen Fisher, where she helped establish the company’s first social compliance system. In this role, she collaborated with a progressive and visionary team in a company that was among the first ones to adopt the SA8000 Standard.

Earlier in her career, Zaid served for eight years with the clothing company Country Miss, managing its product development department that included the company’s factories and outsourcing facilities in the United States, China and Hong Kong. Respect towards workers’ rights was an inherent part of the company’s culture.

Zaid holds a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College.
